Care for our Employees

They are our stewards, ambassadors, enablers.
We value our employees, and we resolve to provide them with a safe and fair working environment. It is also our mission to make Sheng Siong a great place to work, where employees’ needs are well-taken care of and where they can realise their fullest potential.

We value and recognise the contributions of our colleagues, and strive to provide a safe and conducive working environment on the basis of an inclusive, productive, innovative and ownership-driven culture.

Sheng Siong’s flat corporate hierarchy fosters close, transparent and direct communication between employees and high-level management. We are family-friendly, approachable and have an open-door work environment.

We are constantly looking for ways to help our employees grow and upgrade. Working closely with the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS) has led to higher customer service standards at all our retail outlets. Since 2023, we have also partnered NTUC LearningHub to attract and nurture talents in the retail industry through retail training, development programmes and industry outreach. We have a huge focus on on-the-job training and work closely with partners such as ITE and NTUC LearningHub in developing a training curriculum for our employees. We want to champion our employees’ skills development and build a lifelong learning culture at our workplace. In recognition of our efforts, we were conferred the Skillsfuture Employer Award (Gold) in 2023.

As early adopters of the Retail Progressive Wage Model (PWM) to uplift employees’ basic salaries, we achieved the Progressive Wage Mark, and was awarded the prestigious Plaque of Commendation at the NTUC May Day Awards 2023.

Since 2013, as a way to show our appreciation towards our employees, our controlling shareholders Mr. Lim Hock Eng, Mr. Lim Hock Chee and Mr. Lim Hock Leng disbursed, out of their own pockets, annual education grants to children of our lower-salaried employees.
