Celebrate Winter Solstice with ALLSWELL Tang Yuan Recipe

The Winter Solstice, known as Dongzhi (冬至) in Chinese, marks the “peak of winter.” This festival is cherished as a time for family reunions and celebrations. As with all Chinese festivals in Singapore, there’s always an iconic delicacy to look forward to, and for Winter Solstice, it’s tangyuan (glutinous rice balls)!

Tangyuan, whose name sounds like tuanyuan (which means “reunion” in Chinese), symbolizes family unity and harmony. We are delighted to share a simple yet meaningful recipe to prepare a delicious Tang Yuan dessert for your family and loved ones.

Ingredients:

• 2 bottles of Allswell Longan Red Date (1L)
• 1-2 packets of KG Mini Rice Balls
• 4–5 slices of ginger (optional)
• 2 spoons of sugar (optional) if you prefer a sweeter soup base

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Soup Base: Pour the 2 bottles of Allswell Longan Red Date into a pot and bring it to a gentle boil. This rich, nourishing base is packed with the goodness of longan and red dates, which help to nourish the blood, build up qi, and strengthen the spleen and stomach.
2. Add Ginger: If you like a hint of spiciness, add 4–5 slices of ginger to the boiling soup base. The ginger adds warmth and depth to the flavour.
3. Sweeten if Desired: For those with a sweet tooth, you can add 2 spoons of sugar to the soup base. Adjust the sweetness to your preference.
4. Cook the Rice Balls: Once the soup is boiling, add the 1-2 packets of KG Mini Rice Balls into the pot. Let them cook until they float to the surface, which indicates that they are ready.
5. Serve and Enjoy: Ladle the tangyuan and soup into bowls, serve hot, and enjoy the delightful taste of this traditional treat with your family and loved ones.
