Singapore, 13 July 2026 – Sheng Siong Group Ltd (“Sheng Siong”) broke ground on its new Integrated Headquarters and Distribution Centre (“IHDC”) in Sungei Kadut today. Representing an investment of approximately S$520 million, this marks the Group’s largest investment to date and reflects its commitment to building the operating backbone for its next phase of growth.
The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry.
Sheng Siong currently serves its customers through a network of 90 stores across Singapore. Its existing distribution centre at Mandai Link was originally designed to support approximately 50 stores. Through ongoing investments in technology and an extension of the current facility, the Group has enhanced operational efficiency and expanded capacity over the years.
With rising consumer demand and continued store expansion, the Group’s store network is expected to soon exceed the facility’s capacity. The new IHDC will provide the infrastructure needed to support more than 120 stores, strengthening Sheng Siong’s ability to serve Singapore households with freshness, value and reliability.
Built on a site approximately 2.5 times the size of Sheng Siong’s current distribution centre, the seven-storey IHDC will span over 61,000 square metres. When completed, it will be one of the most advanced automated grocery distribution centres in Southeast Asia.
More than a larger warehouse, the IHDC is a major step in Sheng Siong’s transformation into a more technology-enabled, data-driven and resilient supermarket operator. As a supermarket offering both wet and dry products, Sheng Siong handles a wide range of goods every day, from fresh, chilled and frozen items to dry goods and household essentials, each with different storage, handling and fulfilment needs.
With support from Enterprise Singapore and JTC, the IHDC will bring together automated storage and retrieval systems, robotics, intelligent warehouse management systems and multi-temperature storage zones within a single integrated facility.
The flow-through of goods at the distribution centre is expected to increase, enabling more products to reach stores in a shorter cycle. This will improve productivity across key warehouse processes and help Sheng Siong respond more quickly to changes in customer demand, especially for products where freshness and timely delivery are critical.
For customers, this means more reliable product availability as Sheng Siong continues to grow. With storage capacity increasing to more than 70,000 pallet positions, Sheng Siong will have greater room to plan ahead, manage inventory and procure at greater scale. This will support more stable supply, while supporting cost management and continued value for customers.
The IHDC will also support the people who have grown with Sheng Siong. As operations become more automated, Sheng Siong will progressively upskill employees from manual handling and warehouse support roles into higher-value roles such as system operators and maintenance technicians. These roles will complement new capabilities in areas such as systems engineering, automation, and e-commerce fulfilment, providing employees with a safer, future-ready working environment.
As a homegrown company, Sheng Siong has grown together with its suppliers, including more than 900 local suppliers. With the IHDC, suppliers will be able to consolidate deliveries through a central distribution platform, reducing unnecessary trips, improving supply planning, and enabling more effective production planning. Over time, fewer unnecessary trips and better matching of supply to demand can contribute to lower wastage and a smaller carbon footprint across the supply chain.
Beyond its own operations, Sheng Siong hopes for the IHDC to serve as a platform for shared learning. Building on the learning journeys conducted at its existing distribution centre, the new facility will allow suppliers, industry peers and organisations to gain practical insights into warehouse automation and the business practices that have supported Sheng Siong’s growth. In doing so, Sheng Siong hopes to continue growing together with its partners and contributing to stronger capabilities across the wider ecosystem.
Mr Lim Hock Chee, Chief Executive Officer of Sheng Siong Group Ltd, said, “The Sungei Kadut Integrated Headquarters and Distribution Centre is the largest investment we have made. As we grow, we must build the foundation that allows us to serve customers better, support our suppliers and create better jobs for our people. We are grateful for the support of our partners and look forward to building this next chapter together.”
The building is expected to be completed by 2029. The IHDC will support Sheng Siong’s continued expansion and ensure the Group remains well positioned to serve Singapore households for many years to come.
